JGM Shines at 2024 Ipswich Kart Club TaG Titles

Two fresh faces from the JGM camp claimed their very first podiums at last weekend’s TaG Titles.

Hamilton Rae, who qualified on the front row of the gird fought hard to secure his very first IKC podium. The team making a last-minute setup change to help secure the youngster the fastest lap of the race by over two tenths, and a solid P3 finish.

Teammate Will Carmichael (KA3 Junior Heavy) displayed determination, sportsmanship, and skill all day. Carmichael qualified P3, 0.134 tenths off pole position. He battled fiercely throughout the weekend, sustaining damage in most heats and bringing the kart home in every race in the top 5. He triumphed in the final with a commendable P2 finish.

“These podiums mark significant milestone for both drivers. Jess said. To get on the podium at Ipswich Kart Club where the competition is arguably the hardest in the country is a tremendous effort. Both drivers have worked hard drove clean and fair all day and we couldn’t be prouder to celebrate their success this weekend.”

JGM continue to affirm its status as a team destined for success, achieving numerous top 10 finishes across various categories. Lucas Lesmes secured fifth place in KA3 Senior and was in serious contention for a podium with teammate Matt Price finishing closely behind in P8. Ronan Finn, representing the Mini Team, rounded out the top 10 in KA3 Senior.

Despite only his third race in the category, Johnny Wright continues to demonstrate remarkable progress. The 12-year-old climbed to P18/32 drivers in the final before an unfortunate incident pushed him back in the field, still finishing ahead of drivers far more experience.

Seb Di Salvo, JGM’s TaG Restricted Medium driver who secured the team’s inaugural podium of the season at Round 1, had a weekend he'd prefer to forget. Despite qualifying in the middle of the pack, he found himself entangled in multiple incidents not of his making, ultimately cutting short his race weekend.

“In this sport, the highs and lows can be intense,” Jess remarked. "One weekend, you're basking in the glory of a podium finish, and the next race weekend, challenges seem to abound. However, our drivers remain resilient, and together we are constantly working behind the scenes. We're committed to nurturing their growth both on and off the track, ensuring they're equipped for success."

The next Ipswich Kart Club Championship round will be held on May 4.
